Like seemingly every one else in the anime fan world, I was a fan of the first season of this show, known by the above title, or My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute, or most commonly Oreimo.  There is good reason to like this series, and not just because of the superior character designs.

As you can see, superior character design is a reason though.  But the series also does a great job of making fun of both the attitudes people have towards otaku, and making fun of otaku themselves and showing why people have negative opinions of otaku.  Making a series that makes fun of a group of people that are also the biggest fans of the series takes some doing, but Oreimo pulls it off.  If you have not watched season 1, go do that now, I will wait(it’s free).  (Note however that Crunchyroll does not have 3 episodes(knows as webisodes) that conclude the first season.  You have to buy the DVD or Blueray to see those legally.)

Season 2 picks up right where season 1 left off.  Kyosuke has brought Kirino back from America, but all is not right with the world.  Kirino seems distant again and Kyosuke is confused about Kuroneko and her actions just before he left to get Kirino.  Before the show can turn too angsty, things pick up with another shopping trip to Akihabara.

The episode is mostly there to get things started.  Very little story actually happens, it is mostly setting up plotlines.  As it covers material from the beginning of volume 6 of the light novels, it makes sense that it is setting up storylines instead of advancing them.  All of the major and most of the minor characters make at least a brief appearance, which in itself is somewhat satisfying as I grew to like those characters from season 1.

Overall a very enjoyable beginning to the new season.  Art/animation looks very good, crisper than season 1 to my untrained eye.  Opening song is not nearly as good as season 1’s however.  Well worth it to watch if you have watched season 1, and if you have not, worth watching season 1 to get to this episode.
